Lake Ledro, everything you need to know

Where to find it and many ideas for experiencing the lake at its best

A mountain lake with turquoise waters, surrounded by woods and rocky crags, housing an open-air museum: with its unique charm, Lake Ledro truly conquers everyone. This body of water, located at 655 meters above sea level, is ideal both for those looking for quiet beaches to lie in the sun between one swim and another, and for those who want to try a variety of water sports, from kayaking to SUP and wakeboarding.

The lake is also perfect for those looking for wild coasts, those who want to cycle along the lake, or even those looking for culture during their time in Trentino, thanks to the famous stilt houses. So let's have a look at what to do in Lake Ledro, but first let's find out how to get there!

Where it is and how to get to Lake Ledro

With a surface area of just over 2 square kilometers, a circumference measuring approximately 10 kilometers and a maximum depth of 47 meters, Lake Ledro was isolated until the mid-19th century, nestled in the mountains between Lake Garda and Lake Idro. The lake was connected to Riva del Garda with the construction of a road full of hairpin bends - the famous Ponale road, which today can only be travelled by mountain bike or on foot.

This allowed the development of the fantastic Ledro Valley, which still retains its all-natural charm. Today Lake Ledro can be reached by car in just 15 minutes from Riva del Garda, through a long tunnel, and passing through Biacesa and Molina di Ledro.

What to do in Lake Ledro

As mentioned earlier, there are so many things to do around Lake Ledro! Are you looking for ideas to make your holiday in the Ledro Valley special? Here are some ideas to enjoy the lake at its best:

Relax on the lake beaches

Certainly the first thing that comes to mind for many people when looking at Lake Ledro is relaxing on its beaches, perhaps alternating rest with swims in its fresh and regenerating waters. You should know that Lake Ledro has four beaches, all public, each with different characteristics. Is your dog travelling with you? Then you’ll be happy to know that Pur beach is pet friendly!

Walking around the lake

Want an easy but fairly long walk? The tour of Lake Ledro is for you. It is a 10-kilometer walk, suitable for everyone, taking you through the villages of the lake and its beaches.

Visit the Museo delle Palafitte (Pile-Dwelling Museum)

In 1929, due to the lowered water level caused by the construction of the Riva Hydroelectric Power Plant, a Bronze Age pile-dwelling settlement was discovered, and today it's one the most famous in Europe. The Pile-Dwelling Museum allows you to visit a reconstruction of this Neolithic village, to combine culture and nature.

SUP, kayak or wakeboard

Why not “walk” on the waters of Lake Ledro with a SUP? Or why not paddle with a kayak? Or why not try the adrenaline of wakeboarding? At Lake Ledro you can try many different water sports.

Fishing at Lake Ledro

Chub, pike, carp, tench and more. Enthusiasts can bring their fishing rods to the Ledro Valley to try their luck in these Alpine waters.

Touring the lakes on a mountain bike

Those who love riding their mountain bikes can set off from the shores of the lake to discover many different routes through the woods, or if they want a real challenge they can opt for the tour of the three lakes, from Lake Garda to Lake Ledro and finally Lake Ampola.
